Charismatic equine educator, Tyler Donaldson-Aitken, is now using Prism for his client communications, finances and breaking and training operations.
Tyler found his way into the industry through family ties. His father, Stan Aitken, was a Group 1 winning jockey and two cousins from his mother's side, Timothy Bell & Adrian Garraway, were also successful jockeys. Tyler first worked in a stable when he was 13 for Trainer Robert Smerdon at Ballarat and later Darren Weir where he would ride trackwork during school holidays and on weekends. This started an obsession to learn more about horses and the never ending pursuit of increasing his skill set and horsemanship. Whilst at university, Tyler worked at Flemington for Mike Moroney and Nigel Blackiston. At 24 he went out and started a breaking and pre-training venture with his business partner and friend Matthew Smerdon. Tyler then had an opportunity to travel to the UK on a two year visa to gain further experience under James Owen who broke in and pre-trained at Newmarket and also for Hugo Palmer as his Pupil Assistant. Tyler returned to Australia and kicked off his own breaking and pre-training business based in Ballarat - T D Aitken Horse Training & Education.
Located at Sylvan Lodge in Miners Rest and 5 minutes from Ballarat racecourse, Tyler is a master of educating young horses for recreation and also for the racing industry. His business is forever growing and Prism will help streamline his operations and take his business to the next level.
Interesting to note that Tyler represented Australia in the Mongolian Derby last year, a race staged over 1000 km and finished 4th overall. A fantastic achievement and true testament to his horsemanship and stamina. Tyler plans to compete in a similar event over 500km in Argentina in 2025 and is looking forward to that challenge.
